About Worth, Illinois
Located in Cook County, Worth is 16 miles southwest of Chicago and is bounded by the Calumet-Sag Channel. The early of Worth is tied to Alsip to the east and Palos Hills to the west. It was incorporated along with Chicago Ridge, on it's northern border, in 1914.
The community took it's name from William Jenkins Worth, a general in the Mexican-American War.
Worth's population went from 240 in 1920 to more than 11,000 in 1970 and currently. The heart of the village exist where the Louis and Pacific Railroad Wabash line intersects with Harlem Avenue and 111st Street.
